As we embark on the holiday season with family gatherings and club parties, let us take some time to review where we are as we approach the half way mark in our Rotary year.

I am heartened by my experience so far as district governor.  We Rotarians are very special people drawn together in service to others. What we do in our communities and around the world is tangible and necessary.
As I continue to travel the district I am hearing an overarching challenge in all my visits and that is membership. Even though it is  a challenge throughout our district, our clubs' approaches so far have been individualized and short term.

We need to rethink membership and expand it beyond the immediate numbers challenge. we need to ask ourselves deeper more fundamental questions that will inform our challenge with membership numbers.

So, we embarked on a grounds up strategic plan at DisCon 2016 with input from Rotarians from across our district. On November 19 it was worked on by district leadership and a strategic plan document will be finalized by council in January and will be forwarded to clubs in early February.

This is critical, because club rejuvenation is key to our success. It is a multi year approach that encompasses a variety of choices at the individual, club and district levels that must be taken seriously in order for us to grow and thrive.

Thank you one and all for all that you do in serving our communities locally and internationally. Serving humanity is a noble cause and we are needed more than ever in our world today.

So from my heart to yours I wish you a great holiday season filled with love, peace, connection, good health, joy and merriment.
