Using the Editor to create and edit your content
The tips below apply to using the editor in the Events entry page and other parts of the website outside of the newsletters. The newsletters use a different editor which is very similar, so the tips below should be readily adaptable to the newsletters.
Creating Links
Placing a long link in the body of your text distracts the reader from your message and looks messy. Fortunately, you can easily create a link for the user to click on.
- First, locate the link button in the toolbar of the editor embedded in the web page. Usually this will look like a link of a chain, and may have a ‘broken chain link’ beside it to use when deleting a link. you may find that the link buttons are greyed out or inactive unless you have text selected.
- Now create and select the text you wish to make a link out of. For instance, type the sentence “Click on this link to visit their website.” Now select the words ‘this link’ with your mouse so they appear in reverse video on your screen.
- Copy the Internet address you wish to create a link to into your clipboard.
- With the link text selected, click the link button in the toolbar. A dialog will appear allowing you to paste or type the address. Click OK on the dialog and your link is created.
- If the link dialog gives you the opportunity, it’s generally best to set the Target to open the link in a separate browser window if it leads to a different website.
