Six years ago, a friend of mine invited me to a BBQ she was organizing with her association.
The funds raised would be used to send computers and books they got for a primary school in Haiti that lost everything during the 2010 earthquake. It was my first interaction with Rotaract.

In addition to having a great time, I got curious to learn more. Mostly, I admired that a small group of friends, some students and some young professionals, could together create such a project to help a place they never went and people they will never meet.
I joined the Rotaract Club de l’île de Montréal that same summer, working directly on that enterprise that we achieved the following year.

Surrounded by new friends, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and got to coordinate the volunteering activities between the organizations we help and our members. For 3 years at this role, with 10 to 15 members, my club participated to over 130 activities for almost 2 200 hours. At the same time, I discovered a wide variety of ways everyone can help depending on their interests and availabilities.

Loving to organize activities, gather and share information, but also looking for more challenges, I got the opportunity to become Secretary, then President, and now 7040 co-DRR. During my presidency, we focused on the fight against polio by donating 6 500$ to the Rotary Foundation following an awareness campaign and a fundraising cocktail we organized.

While helping my fellow Rotaractors and Rotarians at different levels, I also documented what it is, what to do and how to start in an executive team or a DRR position. Indeed I realized that a lot of knowledge is lost from one team to another as people leave or forget, so I wanted to facilitate the transitions and avoid the new boards to start from over again.

But the Rotary experience is also out of our club. Since I joined in 2014, I participated to 3 Rotary International Conventions (Seoul, Toronto, Hamburg), and you can count on me to be there in Honolulu! These events are for me one of the most incredible experiences you can ever have. In addition to visiting a new city, trying new food and touching another culture, every RICon is unique and rich. Rich by the people we meet randomly proudly wearing a Rotary pins, the friends we find back, the projects we discover, the speakers’ incredible experiences, etc.

My first convention with over 45 000 Rotarians is what made me realize we are more than a club; we are an international group of friends on which you can rely to impact positively every community.

To conclude, Rotaract gave me opportunities to organize activities an employer wouldn’t have dared to, discover new skills I wouldn’t have thought of, talk with people I wouldn’t have met, but mostly do all of this with amazing friends.
