On March 13 one of our members – Suzanne Hocquard reached out to the Meals On Wheels director in our area to inquire if they would need assistance delivering meals. Normally this task is completed by retired individuals but with the quarantine in force these individuals were not available.

Rotary to the rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suzanne and her father Jim Hocquard jumped in and started to make these deliveries.

At the same a local company requested from “A Catered Affair” owned by Tim and Chantal McRae, to prepare 500 meals for anyone in need. Suzanne talked to our President Gaytan Turpin and they linked the two together and thus the Hawkesbury Rotary Club and its members along with “A Catered Affair” were providing meals to all who needed. Our Rotary District stated funds were available…so an application was sent, and we received $ 3,500.00. Our club approved $ 4,000.00 and with donations from the public and our contribution, total is $ 19,780. Contributions are still coming in as this is being written.

Service Communautaire who runs the Meals On Wheels program in our area of Prescott and Russell have 280 people in their system with 7 meals a week each. That is a total of 1960 meals per week. We are also working with local Food Banks, other social service groups and calls from people who require a good home cooked meal.

The Hawkesbury Rotary Club applied for a provincial grant to support the needy and shut-ins and were awarded an amount of $ 65,000.00. We plan to invest the total amount for the betterment of needy in our community. We are hard at work feeding people and assisting in our area.

Where there is a need we will help.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF
