Newsletter

Joan Hunter will be taking over as newsletter editor for the district. Joan and Ariane will be working together for the first few months. We are looking for help. Someone from New York State and someone from Quebec would make a great team. Knowledge of ClubRunner is helpful, but not required.

Articles Deadlines

Please submit anything that you want in the newsletter by the 25th of each month. The newsletter usually goes out by the first or second of each month and it takes time to put things together in the proper format. Anything after the 25th will not be published.

Articles must be in Word format, with pictures separately as attachments.

Bulletin

Canada's Flag at Rotary Headquarters, Evanston

The Canadian flag is flying in front of Rotary World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. The maple leaf will fly at One Rotary Center for the 2022-23 Imagine Rotary year during RI President Jennifer Jones' term.

The tradition is for the flag of the RI President’s home country to fly in front of HQ.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem, experiencing the worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Just like physical first aid is provided until medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate support is found or until the crisis is resolved.

Learn more about becoming a facilitator here.

Notes for July

District Dues Invoices

Invoices will not be sent out until membership numbers from RI have been verified.  Currently there is a message on the RI site that it could take up to the middle of July for numbers to be finalized. When I checked on July 1, we showed 1523 active Rotarians.

We are also waiting for final information on the Canadian insurance price per member from the insurance agent.

Profile Updates

Get your club members to check that their information is up to date. You can do this from ClubRunner in your club site. Go to the Membership tab and click on Request Member Updates. Everyone will get a personalized message with links.

Update Your Executive Members

Check that your executive members are up to date. RI requires at the very least listings for president, secretary, membership and Foundation chairs. You can check yourself to see who has not been reported yet. Go to My Rotary; sign in; click on Home; District 7040 and look for Reports. You will be able to find a list of current and incoming officers.

Rotary in Kingston Supports Pathways to Education Graduation
The end of the school year is always exciting but especially for those who are graduating from secondary school. On June 16, 17, many young people gathered at the Kingston Community Health Centre with their families and Pathways to Education staff to celebrate their success. It was a wonderful event that would not have happened without the support and volunteer efforts of Kingston Rotarians.

Seaway West Rotarians Helping to Settle Refugees
About seven years ago, an article circulated showing the image of a young boy, who laid lifeless on a beach along the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. The boy was identified as Alan Kurdi, a child who had drowned as his family attempted to flee the war in Syria. The image and article had a profound effect on my wife and I and we found ourselves pacing around our newly purchased home, staring into empty bedrooms, and trying to figure out if there was anything we could do. And so, around midnight, we decided to see if we might be able to host someone from Syria looking for a place of refuge and to help them settle in our town.
