DG Message for February 2023
Dear Fellow Rotarians and friends,

A month has passed already since the beginning of 2023 and within the Rotarian community, February is Peace building and Conflict resolution month. Let us take a moment to have a special thought for all the victims of unjust, unwarranted wars and conflicts around the world. These issues can come from the greediness of people in search for power, wealth, or personal agendas. Despite these challenges, as Rotarians, we believe that change can happen, and our efforts make an impact. We work towards making the world a better place. We pray that the governing bodies divert the funds used for armed conflicts to help the people in need instead, all around the globe for a better life and future.

I have much pleasure to share with you that January has been very rewarding for our organisation. Witnessing and participating in the induction of at least 10 new Rotarians during my official visits within different clubs has not only shown growth. It shows that our hard work has not gone to waste and each of you is making a difference. On my end, I have driven through snowstorms to be able to meet my commitments and goals of sharing fellowship and friendship in person with you all. It warms my heart to see the work we can achieve together as a team. I am very happy to note that some of the clubs are very active in trying to reverse the trend of losing members caused by the Covid19 pandemic and related factors. They continuously search for innovative ways to engage and retain current members as well as prospective new members.

RI Assembly

Rotary International Assembly – January 8-12, 2023

I had the privilege of participating in the Rotary International (RI) Assembly in Orlando FL in early January, together with almost 500 District Governors Elect (DGEs) from around the world and over 300 of their partners.  The Assembly was the last major training event for DGEs in preparation for taking on the role of District Governor in July 2023, and the first one held in person since January 2020.

Dear Presidents- elect:  Please mark your calendars for the weekend of Mar. 31 – Apr. 1. At that time, all Presidents – Elect will gather in person in Cornwall at the Best Western – Parkway Inn and Conference Centre to begin our annual training of Presidents for the 2023 – 2024 Rotary year.

There is no cost for Presidents Elect. The District recognizes that this training is so important and we want to make it as easy as possible for PE’s to participate. The program begins on Mar. 31 with registration and check-in at 4:00 pm and ends at the same time the following day.
We have a wonderful program prepared for you involving Zone and District leaders. There will also be two sessions for Area Governors to meet with Presidents Elect to plan for the coming year and pursue ways to collaborate.

To book a room at the Best Western, please call 613-932-0451 (identify that you are with the D7040 PETS group).

If you have any questions, contact Paul Elsley at elsleypaul@gmail.com

Global Grant for the Porur Dialysis Clinic in Chennai.

Below is a link to an article by Rotarian Heather Nogrady on the RC Cataraqui-Kingston website. It is for a Global Grant that provides 10 dialysis machines and related equipment to the Porur Dialysis Clinic in Chennai. This $119,000 US project has 10 Rotary Clubs in 6 countries and 4 districts supporting it. For the host club, RC Chennai Galaxy, this is their first Global Grant.

As International Partner, RC Cataraqui-Kingston is thankful for the support of RC Montreal Lakeshore and of course our District 7040 for District Designated Funds as well as a diverse group of Rotary friends internationally.
