PDG Stella Roy (RI President’s Representative)
Stella is currently working as an End Polio Now Zone coordinator for 28 East and is a newly appointed Director for the Rotary Foundation of Canada. She is on the International Service committee in her Club and the Grant committee for her District and has been to the Dominican Republic to help build a garden and see the work D7820 did for this small Haitian community.
Stella served as District Governor for the D7820 in 2014-2015. She loved learning that each community is unique, one size does not fit all, and was amazed at all the different ways that Rotarians are able to help their communities, especially up in the north of Labrador and the small communities in our many rural areas.
Highlights of her Rotary opportunities have been NID trips to India, Madagascar and Nigeria led by Anne Lee Hussey. She saw the three stages of polio eradication, India being more than three years polio free, Madagascar in turmoil because of 10 cases of vaccine derived polio because of lax vaccination programs in 2014 and in 2017, Nigeria fighting complacency with aggressive programs as they reach 18 months for the second time of being polio free. Stella had been to Nigeria in 2013, 2015 and 2017 and has seen a huge difference in their organisation and passion to become polio free.
Stella is a Paul Harris society Member, a Polio Plus Society Member, a Major Donor and a Bequest Society Member. She was proud to receive the Polio Regional Service Award for a Polio free world and the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service.
She works as a physiotherapist in the area of Women’s Health in Bedford and her hobbies include Sailing, Hiking and Paddle boarding with her 1-year-old Golden Denver.
I am thrilled to join you to learn and “Imagine what Inclusion means in this world” I look forward to reuniting with many friends in your District and meeting many more.
