Season's Greetings - Salutations de la saison

Posted by DG Pardeep Ahluwalia
This is a season during which many faiths and cultures celebrate their beliefs and their heritage. In the Gregorian month of December 2023, there are celebrations of Hanukkah, Bodhi Day, the December solstice, Yule, Christmas, Zarathosht Diso, and Kwanzaa. For those of Scottish heritage and others, Hogmanay spans the end of this year and the start of the next. And in Gregorian January, those who follow the Orthodox Christian faith will be celebrating Orthodox Christmas.

Within our Rotary community, we have members who follow many of the faiths which have celebrations during this period, and others which may not have formal celebrations or Holy Days at this time of the Gregorian year, including Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism for example.

Branding Competition

Posted by Dave Humphries, Public Image, Communication & Outreach

Rotary International (RI)changed its brand several years ago, however, not all Clubs or Districts are using the current branding. To encourage the use of the official RI brand in D7040, and hopefully have some fun while doing it, we are launching a Branding Competition.

The Chair of the D7040 Public Image Committee, David Humphries, District Governor Elect, Teresa Whitmore, Governor Nominee Graeme Fraser, and technical lead Chris Cochrane are issuing a challenge to all D7040 Clubs. They want to have ALL clubs in District 7040 using current RI branding.

To be entered into this competition, your Club’s Letterhead, print material, social media accounts and website must show the proper Rotary logo as shown at the top. The example above is for District 7040: you can create the correct logo for your Club by going to the Brand Center in My Rotary (rotary.org).  Don’t have a MyRotary account? Set one up, it’s really easy - and you will find a wealth of Rotary related info and courses in MyRotary!

The first phase of the competition will run from November 15th, 2023, to January 15th, 2024, and will include social media, website, written promotional material and letterhead. The second phase will run until November 2024 and will include all banners, flags, tents, and bigger promotional materials.

How to enter
Starting November 15th,  you will be able to submit letterhead, promotional material, social media links, and anything else which shows the current brand, to the Public Image Committee’s email account publicimage7040@gmail.com and our judging team will  look at  them.

A Charter Night to Remember

Posted by DG Pardeep Ahluwalia
On Saturday November 25, there was an amazing gathering of Rotarians and non-Rotarians at the Charter Celebration Gala for the Montreal Cedars Rotary Club. The event was hosted by Pres. Maha Maalouf-Kassouf, with Rima Khoury (Club Treasurer) acting as MC.

In addition to Charter members of the Club and an array of guests from the Montreal area, a number of members of the District Governor group were in attendance with their spouses - DG Pardeep Ahluwalia and Simmy Ahluwalia, IPDG Michel Wong Kee Song and Suzanne, PDG Hadi Mortada and Teresa, PDG Nabil Oudeh and Gayle Oudeh, and PDG Ariane Carriere.

The highlight of the evening was the opportunity for District Governors to present Rotary pins to those Charter members of Montreal Cedars who were present.

The New Pergola at Rotel

Posted by Joan Hunter
Last summer a group of Rotarians from the West Ottawa Rotary Club planted a pollinator garden at Rotel, the non-profit motel located beside the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Ottawa Hospital General Campus.  Phil Powel Smith, a member of that team, noticed that the pergola was in bad shape and returned to the West Ottawa Club with a recommendation that it be replaced.

The Rotary Club of Malone

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Rotary Club of Malone held its annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser in October. Many hands made light work -- from the fantastic cooks in the kitchen to the many Interact students and Rotary members who helped in all ways. The Interact Club organized the process for filling orders, taking orders curbside, filling orders and delivering curbside, and anything in between.  Customers really enjoyed the students' joyful attitude and their work ethic.
